Teaching Philosophy
I see teaching as an act that should create a space for change, hope, and community building. Informed by intersectional feminism and feminist ethics of care, I view teaching as a practice that works towards empowering student expression and constructing a community of expression in which students’ voices can be developed. Critical emancipatory and feminist pedagogy redefine authority in the classroom as something to be negotiated between students and teacher, is attentive to the social position of students, specifically members of historically underrepresented groups, deepens and expands the possibilities for student engagement and provide students with new ways of growing professionally and intellectually.
